Janis, I was glad to see your post because I've also been trying to take up some pro bono work in my area (Va Beach; not too far from the Library of Virginia though which would be a great opportunity). Although the pickins are slim! I've only had one person inquire about services but it was for a cemetery photo. It wasn't what I was looking for but I did what she asked anyway thinking maybe she would pass my contact info on to others. I did sign up with Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness a couple of weeks ago so hopefully I'll get some work that way. I was also thinking of offering research work on the forum at ancestry.com but haven't done that yet. Maybe I'll go ahead and get on that.
In any event, good luck with picking up some pro bono stuff. Hopefully you'll get more of a response with it than I have so far.
Good Luck!
Nicole LaRue
