Bill,

I always research the spouses of my ancestors. I have actually found more
information and photo's of my own ancestors through their spouses than any
other way, strange but true. Recently I was researching a second spouse of
one of my husband's ancestors and I found a living relative that had a trunk
full of photo's. This trunk contained a photo of the ancestor's mother, a
woman I have been trying to find a photo of for years. Why would a
daughter-in-law, the second spouse of her son no less, have saved a photo of
her mother-in-law? With more research I found that this couple divorced and
the mother-in-law took the side of her daughter-in-law in the divorce per
testimony from her in the case.

So, yes, research the spouses of your ancestors.
