I have been told by conservators that using white cotton gloves with
paper is now a deprecated practice. Apparently it risks damaging the
paper more than skin oils do, because you aren't able to handle the
paper as precisely.





Yes and No! What has been found is that some of the older paper has small fibers that stick out and the cotton gloves tangle in them. They now believe it is less damaging to the paper for clean hands to handle rather than the cotton gloves.
