(We now enter the section of Evidence-Evaluation Standards, #19-34.)
"The Genealogical Proof Standard requires that we base our genealogical
statements on evidence. Evidence is the information that we conclude -- after
careful evaluation -- supports or contradicts the statement we would like to
make, or are about to make, about an ancestor. The soundness of the underlying
conclusion rests not only on our ability to reason but also on how closely our
evaluation methods reflect the following standards:
"19. Reasonably extensive research is prerequisite -- regardless of whether the
problem is simple or complex -- and includes appropriately broadening the
search beyond the person, family, event, or record of most-direct impact on the
project. The search effort extends to discovery of information that does or
might illuminate (or conflict with) the other items of collected data."
