Hello List,

I just wanted to share a great book idea if anyone is looking for one to
read.

I went to a genealogy workshop yesterday and the guest speaker was the
author John B. Baker, Jr. He has written the book "The Washingtons of
Wessyngton Plantation: Stories of My Family's Journey to Freedom"

I would highly recommend this book. This book is not only about his
Washington family that were slaves on the Wessyngton Plantation of Robertson
County, TN. but he has also included his research into the over 200 other
slaves that were on the plantation.

I was very impressed with his knowledge of genealogy research and the book
is excellent.

He started his research when he was 13 years old, he was born in 1962. He
explained that in his history class in school they were studying black
history and in his history book there was a photo of a slave family and he
said that they looked familiar to him and looked a lot like some of his
family. He would find out that the people in the photo were his
great-great-grandparents and his journey began!

He told us yesterday that he has received letters from the Queen of England,
former President Bill Clinton and Oprah Winfrey who have read his book.

If anyone has a chance to get this book, please do so, a great read!!

(Disclaimer: I have no connection to Mr. Baker and I am not profiting in
anyway by making this recommendation)
