Janis, I'd be willing to bet that at least 99.9999% of the participants on
this list have also been "perpetrators." :)
As for Maya Angelou, she put it much more elegantly than an old history prof
I knew, Joe Gray Taylor. Years ago, he gave a paper at a history conference.
When the floor opened for questions, a hot-shot grad student in front of me
popped up with, 'Professor Taylor, just now you said so-and-so. But 20 years
ago, in your work titled Whatever, you asserted something totally different.
You said ....' Before he could go any further, Joe Gray cut him off with,
"Well, I hope to hell I've learned something in the past 20 years."
Don't fret about past sins coming back to haunt you when you submit your
KDP. Your judges, I'll warrant, will have had similar experiences of their
own. Just take advantage of the opportunity to "officially correct
yourself" via a footnote or an in-text discussion, as the situation
warrants.

I have a similar, but (I think) more sobering concern. The knowledge that my
own poor genealogical practices (before I began my serious genealogical
education path in 2007) are still drifting about the cyber universe -- and
they are specific to the family that that is the subject of my KDP.
As Maya Angelou said, "I did then what I knew how to do. Now that I know
better, I do better."
Nonetheless, how harmful is that to me, if the judges do an internet search?
I see the family in question in a quite different, and much more clear way
today, but I was a perpetrator.
