Christy,
First, I hope that the responses given so far have provided a window
into how this list is working for a cross-section of folks. Thanks
everyone for your responses.
Second, I was not suggesting that mentors leave the list or stop
posting; I was simply noticing that when active participants pull
back (for whatever reason), others will step in. And I was commenting
on how wonderful it was to hear from people I'd never heard from
before. My last comment about maybe the experts should go to more
conferences was rather flip, and for that I apologize since it made
you worry so.
Third, I absolutely enjoy and am extremely grateful for the time and
attention that the expert mentors give to this list. AND I concur
with others who suggest that there may be times for these mentors to
pause before responding and see where the conversation goes.
I would also suggest that those of us who have stated our opinion on
a topic do so once. For example (and because it's the most recent
example), Larry, we all know how you feel about the BCG standards. I
don't experience much value in seeing it again and again. For myself,
I apologize for beating the "Internet source/repository/publisher"
drum again and again.
I realize that there are certain "buttons" that get pushed in me.
When this happens, I really need to stop, breathe, and promise myself
to sleep on it before posting. If I still feel really strongly 12-24
hours later, then I'll post. But WHEN I remember to practice this, I
usually don't post my rant or whatever. Or I'm much calmer. Perhaps
this *guideline* (wink) will be useful to others.
