Likewise! NGS has this:

http://www.ngsgenealogy.org/cs/conferences_events/annual_conference/tips_for_first_time_conference_attendees

Layering and comfortable shoes come to mind. Plenty of business cards and a
rat-trap mentality for remembering hundreds of names and faces and
associating them correctly. A good marker to map out Tom's and Elizabeth's
lectures ;-)

My advice is, be prepared to have forgotten *something.* If you're driving
you'll have more flexibility than those of us who fly. (The conference is in
NORTH Charleston, several miles away from the beautiful and walkable city.)
My first time at Samford I woke up Monday morning about 5 am to the
realization that I had packed no soap, and because I was staying in the dorm
might be doomed to having to shower with only toothpaste. Fortunately I had
drive and was able to take off for the nearest Wal-Mart and save the day
(and my classmates' day).
