I am not sure whether your question is about the site in general, or about
Arlington -- if you do a search for surname Smith and year of death 1865
you will find plenty of entries in National Cemeteries, and if you search for
Smith surname and 1945 just for Arlington you will find plenty there too.

Do be aware that the VA site does not cover all cemeteries outside the USA
in which soldiers were interred during World War I and World War II. It
took me a lot of nosing around to find a cousin's grave in France. Someone
else would have to report what sort of memorials have been made for those
buried at sea.

Good hunting,
Judy

Kristin posted the website below, which I took a look at. My question is,
why does this only date back to the 1990s? Is there another site that
covers earlier burials?
