Phyllis:

I spent 7 years trying in to get data for Namborn, Saarland. The only
roll of film for Namborn that came up on the LDS catalog was # 1351266
for 1807-1815. Not a very inclusive film. My ancestor was the first
child of parents married in 1818 and was born in 1819. Then I tried
calling the parish office, writing to Trier, sending letters and money
to both the Catholic Parish and the Village Clerk. No luck whatsover.
The Catholic Parish did not even answer the telephone. No answering
machine either. Three years later, no written reply from the Parish.
My $25 vanished.

The breakthrough for me came when I was looking at the film notes for
film of records for a nearby village, Furschweiler. This film ( #
1055090) includes Namborn, but did not come up with a place search for
Namborn. So does # 1055091. So does #1055096, even though the notes
don't say so. It goes on and on for several more films.
I also went to Rootsweb's Worldconnect and searched for entries with
the location 'Namborn' which included sources. Someone else had found
people in Namborn listed in the Oberkirchen records. His very well
documented sources included the film #1055096.
Another note: One roll of film listed the contents as church records,
but I found that civil records were also sprinkled in. Thus giving, at
times, double documentation for some people.

I suppose that the disjointed nature of the record keeping comes from
wars and reorganization of municipalities.

So, Richard gives good advice. Look in the surrounding villages. Go
to the LDS catalog and read all the film notes for the nearby village.
