I don't know if he served in the Civil War or not. I only know what I listed. However, his daughter Florence married Austin B. Gwin (my gggrandfathe) who served in the 88th Ohio Volunteers in the Civil War. Does the letter suggest that this is the same James H. Tripp? And how does he fit into your research?
