Terry,

I read your message & plea for information. I'm not sure if this is any
help to you or not, but I have family from that same area too (Egge farm &
the Overrein farm). I realize the names Baardsen & Sievertsen were probably
very common names, but I have those names in my family too. The only
difference are parts of my family came to the US in 1857 - so my family
dates back farther than the family you are speaking of in the years 1900 -
1901. I am just wondering if your family isn't descended from my older
family.

My great, great, great, great grandpa's name was Andreas Severtson
Reinsbakken. He was born June 04, 1798 on the Egge farm in Stod, Trondhiem,
Norway. He was married to Ingborg Pettersdatter who was born in 1799. This
Andreas came to America with his 2nd wife & his children. Anyway, Andreas'
parents were: Sivert Amundsen (b. abt. Abt. 1767) & Ingeborg Ingebrigtsdtr
(b. Abt. 1774). Together they had at least 3 children (that I know about):
Martha Sivertsdatter Rein (b. March 18, 1795); Sigrid Sivertsen Rein (b.
1797) & of course my Andreas Severtson Reinsbakken. Like I said, there
could have been more children, but I don't know for sure. I don't have any
more information about either Martha or Sigrid... they could have married &
had families in Norway for all I know.

Most of this family came from Stod in Trondhiem. I also have a Baard Olsen
Lie (b. December 27, 1789 in Lie Vestre, Egg, Stod N. Trondheim, Norway).
Together they had 7 children. Baard's parents were: Ole Olsen Guin (b.
February 17, 1759 on the Guiding Farm, Stod, Norway) & Berit Baardsdatter
Haug (b. 1762). My family information goes farther back, but of course the
farther back it goes the sketchier the information.

Does any of this/these names sound familiar to you, or fit into any
information you have?

I am interested in finding my second and third cousins around Sparbu and
Egge.
My grandmother was Oline Berntine Hjelmseth who left Norway with my
grandfather and father in 1901. When she left Norway she had a sister
Julie.
Julie had three daughters and two sons as shown in Egge in the 1900 census
later in this email.

The next three paragraphs below are from a Sparbu Bygdebok. After that is
the listing of the five children from the 1900 census. I am interested in
making contact with any descendants of those five children. I assume that
family remained in Norway.

The farm Hjelmset, is described, the Hjelmset of your interest mainly in
volume 7 of the same bygdebok, page 51, saying "Hjelmset br.nr. 3".

The book says this was traditionally a cotter's place under br.nr. 1,
without an own name. The cotter family here in 1875 (referendum) and
probably the first ones are Grete and Sivert BÄrdsen. Sivert was born at the
Smedplassen (farm Hegstad) in 1838 (Vol 4, p. 360). Grete Olsdtr. was the
sister of the runner of the main farm (John Olsen).

Grete and Sivert had two daughters (1) Julie Marianne, born 1869 and
(2)Oline Berntine born 1872. Julie was married with John Kristiansen Tangen,
Byafossen, Egge by Steinkjer. Oline Berntine also came to Egge where she in
1896 had a son Sivert Georg - your "Sigvart" with Karl Olssen Overrein.

Any help is appreciated!

Terry Brende
