Egil is correct.
I am aware of the Grande farm name in different areas of Norway.
I'm also aware of immigrants who said 'They came from Trondheim.' My grandfather said that of his Norwegian parents. They did come "from Trondheim." As in... they sailed from Trondheim...; but were not born and raised in Trondheim. They were actually born at Baasen and Vestvignesset, lived at Vennes nordre, Verran Sogn, Yttery Prestegjeld, Nord-Trndelag just before they emigrated, and they selected Vennes as their US surname, sometimes spelled Wennes in both US and Norwegian records (the Norwegian records have a few other spellings, too). There are Grande farms fairly near, just west-northwest of the Vennes farms and the little town of Venneshamn which is located on the southern side of the Skarnsundet between the Beitstadfjord and Trondheimsfjord.
I don't know if your Grande ancestors came from rland or not. I see there is a Grande farm there, too. The Norwegian alphabet and search engines distinguish between and Oo.
I do, however, have Grande and Flstad in my database, as well as Voldset/Woldset - and F and V are sometimes used as interchangeably as V and W. Most of the farms in my genealogy database are in present-day Mosvik kommune, Nord-Trndelag, a few are in what is modern-day Verran kommune on the west-northwest shore of the Beitstadfjord, but in the past, before boundary lines were changed several different times, the Grande and Flstad in my database have been listed in Verran Sogn and Yttery and Indery Prestegjelds, as well as Trondheims Amt that Egil referred to in very old times and records.
In any case, if you tell us who you are looking for, I might be able to help you... IF your ancestors did happen to come from the same area my ancestors did, perhaps some of them are even in my database already.
IF they did come from the same area as mine, you're in luck. There are both transcribed records and microfilm images of records online, and many wonderful people have put a great deal of info online.
Or maybe someone can point out which Grande somewhere else that your ancestors came from. As I said, there is more than one location with the farm name of Grande.
Don't worry. We won't take away the fun of the hunt for ancestors. We know how thrilling it is to find these things on one's own... but it doesn't hurt to have someone point you in the right direction. :-) Those of us who have been doing genealogy research for half a century had people who pointed us in the right direction and we're only here to pass on the favors done for us at some point in the past....
:-)
