We Are Here =20

They called us noble savage

As we offered them our hand

In friendship and in brotherhood

While they plotted to take the land

They released their plagues upon us

For their sicknesses we had no defense

Where once we numbered in the millions

All that were left was just a pittance =20

The once mighty nations crumbled

As death walked among the tribes

We were helpless as we stood =20

And watched our children die=20

Still we welcomed them among us

And taught them to survive=20

We taught them how to plant and hunt

And how to stay alive

Treaty after treaty and still they wanted more

Every promise broken, time and time again

Until we were nothing more than foreigners

In a land where we have always been =20

The once mighty herds of buffalo

That roamed so proud and free

Our brothers that have always nourished us=20

Had now ceased to be=20

For a thousand generations

Our blood has flowed across this land

The bones of our ancestors

Cover the ground on which we stand=20

We fought to keep our homeland

And the sacred places where we pray

But what chance did we have against an enemy

Who fought with treachery and deceit=20

Our hearts were filled with sadness

As our ears were filled with mournful cries

Of our women as they stood and watched

A thousand of our bravest warriors die

They thought we were defeated

That we had ceased to be

But they couldn't be more wrong

And the day will come when they will see

This day will dawn when we'll take our stand

>From coast to coast through out this land

All will know and all will see

Their debt to us they could never repay

But we are here and here we'll stay
