Turners in Halifax

1777 George Turner left will naming wife Eleanor and sons James and Nelson
and daughter Elizabeth Mason with her children Turner Mason, Thomas Mason,
Susanne Lawrence, George Turner, son of Nathan, Lucy Turner, daughter in
law. He gives looking glass to Lucy from her father's estate but no name.
Could check estate records until found George purchasing a looking glass to
get Lucy's maidan name.

1829 Bedford Turner married Harriette Franklin

1820 Burton Turner married Polly Hawkins
1829 Burton Turner married Emaliza Winbourn

1796 Dorcas Turner found in orphans account, Abner Knight was guardian,
other settlements made in 1801. Think her to be child of Edwin.

1795 Edwin Turner will which was witnessed by James Turner listed children
as Temperrance, Martha, Nancy, Edwin, Dorcas. Note above on Dorcas.

1796 Edwin Turner in land deed sold n. side of Beech Maarsh Swamp to
Gilmour. Executor was G. Scurlock. Land adjoins John Turner.

1798 Ethelred Turner has only heir as Mason Williamson Turner with guardian
William Hargrove. Note all the last names - Mason and Williamson.
Big law case on this one. Mason is a girl and her guardian sues her
grandfather, Thomas Turner, for land son Ethelred received from him but
Thomas took back at Ethelred's death instead of letting it pass to Mason.
Court decided in her favor. Ethelred died in 2/28/1768. The land was in
Southhampton, VA. Lots of leads here. Wish it was my line.

1787 Fielding Turner left will naming wife Elizabeth, and children
Fielding, James and if they die before 21 give to brothers and sisters -
Edwin, John, Peter, James, William, Henry, Mary. NOte the information on
Edwin earlier...brothers probably...time fits.

1796 Fielding Turner, desc and left son Fielding (is this the third or
second just grown ?) who is now 17 bound to James Turner to be a tailor.

1826 Green Turner marriage record to Susan Bird.

1770 James Turner has land 179 acres on Deep Creek.

1782 James Turner sold land earlier to John Hobgood whose daugher, Phoeby
married Jesse Turner. John dies in 1782 and leaves the land to his son,
Samuel.

1785 James Turner who was married to Ann Eelbank and son John turner are
mentioned in the will of John Eelbank, desc 1764. John Eelbank left two
girls Ann above and her sister Susann who married M. Eelbeck plus an unborn
daughter, Martha who married H. Bond. They sue for their part of
estate...did not receive.

1803 James Turner married Martha B. Jones, record found in index to
newspapers.

1814 James Turner mentioned in will of Robert Ivey as Robert purchased land
from James Turner.

1787 the following Turners are mentioned in state census James (2 males, 2
females) William (2 males, 2 females), Edwin (2 males, 6 females), John (2
males, 2 females).

1793 Jeremiah Turner with wife Patty selling land to Nash.
1797 Jeremiah (Jerry) Turner will names three girls Elizabeth with guardian
James Cooper; Lydia with guardian William Hill; Patsy with guardian Brittan
Daniel.

1829 Jerry Turner marries Tiney Wright

1862 Jerry Turner marries Sally Coley

1772 Jesse Turner leaves will naming Phoeby Hobgood, wife and all my
children but none named. 1790 Census under Phoeby lists 4 sons under 16 4
females. Lives next door to Hobgood and Solomon Turner who I belive is the
father of Jesse. Note more information on Solomon later in article.

Note 4 Turner men in next item.
1795 John Turner land deed, sells to Wm Gilmour made from 4 parcels.
William Turner, John Turner, James Turner to John in '91 and Green Turner.
This connects John, James, William and Green's land. anyone thinking this
might be their line should write for this deed...maybe these men got the
land from their father who divided it. I did not see deed.

1796 John Turner left will naming John B., Sugar, Simon, Thomas, James.
John was called a resident of Greensville Co, VA

1797 John Turner sells land to John Parsons of Prince George Co, VA. Land
came to him in 1767 from George Turner - Crocket Creek, Old Mill Pond,
Roanoke River.

1799 John Turner in court record over land sold then both die heirs of John
Turner and heirs of Isham Johnston. Heirs again given as John B., Sugar,
Simon, Thomas, James. Ruled in favor of Turners.

1827 Lamuel Turner married Susan Adams. I believe this is grandson of
Jesse and Phoeby Hobgood because she had a brother named Lamuel Hobgood who
was executor of Jesse's will. Note estate sell below and date.

1815 Lemuel Turner estate sell with Green Turner and Pheriby Turner
noticeable buyers.

1700's ? - Moses Turner - land record, date unknown. Richard Fitzpatrick
of Albermarle parish dies (check these records under his name - I did not)
gives to "beloved friend and believed son" 100 acres. Moses is the son of
Sarah Turner who was the wife of James Turner, desc. of Surry County, VA.
I think this is a case of telling too much. I'm sure Sarah didn't
appreciate his death bed honesty.

1798 Nancy Turner, guardianship by Arrington Holt ends.

1784 Nathan Turner inventory of estate by Turner Mason. Remember Turner
Mason was mentioned earlier in a will of George Turner as his g.father.

1796 Pherby Turner, wife of Jesse, reports in 1800 census with 2 sons
10-16, 2 sons 16-26, 1 girl under 10 and 1 girl 10-16 and she is 45 plus
with 8 slaves and 1810 census 2 sons not listed - married ? She gets 216
acres from brother Elijah Hobgood with a witness Penelopy Hobgood Turner,
her sister. Their father was John Hobgood and mother was Frances Morgan,
d/o Samuel Morgan. Hobgood siblings are Samuel, Elijah, Micajah, John,
Elizabeth, Rutherman, William plus Penelopy and Pherby. I was watching
this family because of Jesse Turner name.

1860 R. J. Turner marries Mattie Southall

1822 Richard A. Turner marries Lucy Harris.

1761 Solomon Turner sells land left to his brother Joseph in will of his
father, Henry Turner. So Henry has two sons we know of Joseph and Solomon.

1788 Solomon Turner gives son Thomas Turner for love and affection 60
acres.

1790 Solomon Turner's children are to inherit land of Richard Scott if he
dies without issue. Richard is purchasing land from Luke Nichols.

1798 Solomon Turner sells land witnessed by Turner Joyner. (Joyners came
from Isle of Wight - found the name there early)

1784 Solomon T. Turner with wife Judith and son Thomas mentioned in will of
William Merritt. Solomon is mentioned as son-in-law.

1807 Solomon Turner's will mentions no wife but names two girls for estate
Betty and Patty then later names three others as daughter for 5 shillings
each - Pheriby Turner, Nancy Turner and Milly Turner. I believe they are
daughter-in-laws, from deceased sons - who might be Thomas, Jesse, and ?

1860 Solomon marries Temperance Hyman.

1880 Susan Ann Turner leaves a will naming William, Jesse B., Richard,
Elizabeth, Mary Demry, John Norfleet Turner (minor), heirs of Sallie and
John Merriet, Rebecca, Mary J. Nancy (minors), Jordan and mary guardians of
all minors.

1797 Talbert Turner dieds and leaves son Brittian Turner bound to Lodwick
Brook to be a carpenter.

young and Patience Young.

1829 Thomas Turner marries Elizabeth Gee.

Brittian DAniel. 50 acres R. Daniel sold to Jeremiah, jacket Swamp 100
acres sold to Jeremiah by H. Freeman.

1700's ? William Turner - date unknown. Desc leaves brother Thomas as
executor. William was resident of Northampton Co with bond to Norfleet of
Southampton Co, VA. Not sure why this is listed in Halifax?

1767 William Turner with wife Winfred sells land 3 times. 1767 and 1772
and 1773 to Jeremiah Turner 150 acres in Jacket Swamp which Ed Turner
purchased from Charles Likely. witness was Ed Turner and John Turner.

1771 William Turner court records Thomas Turner who was brother to William
desc. who lived in Northampton bond to Norfleet paid. John Taylor's widow,
Charity Broom has not paid.

1779 William Turner court records. G. Morris contracted with Wm Turner to
take son Dunston's place in war. Turner agreed if Caty Harper, mother of
his children, would get 600 dollars.

1786 William Turner's will names Winney as wife with children Edwin,
Fielding, John, Peter, James, William, Henry, Mary. We have seen these
children before in records. This puts them together in 1786.

1786 William Turner will leaves son Henry with executor Edwin Turner and
Fielding Joyner. Henry selects Edwin as guardian. Was Henry the only
minor I wonder in the will above this one.

1863 William turner marries Seilla Artis.

1856 Josiah Turner marries Sopphia Devereux

Out of Halifax records will pick up with Hathaway County next time.
