Your mention of Delaware/Maryland and Virginia Turner reminds me of
something. I have tried to find a Henry Turney born in Maryland, moved to
NC, then ended up in Tennessee with my Turneys. My Turneys arrived in VA ca
1749 the area which is today Woodstock in Shenandoah County of VA. I have
found lots of Turners in Maryland, but no Turneys. But here is something
which might help some VA Turner researcher.
SHENANDOAH COUNTY VIRGINIA MARRIAGE BONDS 1772-1850
Compiled by Bernice M. Ashby
page 9
Turner, Michl. -- Mathaney, Elender Sept 19, 1785 Bondsman: Danl. Mathaney
This is not a Turner but rather Michael Turney born 1760 VA and his wife
Ellender Mathaney the d/o Daniel Mathaney. The Turneys and Mathaneys all
lived up to about 1787 about 6 miles south of what would become about then
Woodstock VA. They lived next to the Abraham Bird plantation, also a
Hawkins there who bought the Turney land when they left ca 1787 for the move
to Kentucky. The Turneys and Mathenys all moved to KY same time.
Now also in the Shenandoah Co VA Marriage books there is
a Ternay, Michl....and he is really Michael Turner. What I have found is
his family along with Murphys moved from Maryland to VA. This Michael
Turner also moved to KY ca 1787.
Ternay - land transaction 9/13/1787 Hampshire Co VA
Ternay: 9/3/1787 Michael Ternay and wife Phoebe sell to James Murphy:
(both of Hampshire Co) 1/2 acre lot in town of Romney: recorded 9/13/1787.
Witnesses: Alex Ruthven, Rub. Holiday, Ralph Humphreys, John Murphy.
(my note - it seems this Michael Turner - his wife was a Murphy, both
families from Maryland to VA, then to KY.)
Just thought that might help someone. I know I spent a lot of time on the
Michael Ternay/Murphy marriage till I found out it was a Turner.
