Looking for William TURNER b-abt 1718 in IRE. He married a Margaret (Last
name unk) bef 1745. They had at least three known children; John bet
1752-1765, Alexander abt 1748 and James abt 1756. I know almost nothing
about James and Alexander. William died in SC in either Chervan CO or
Craven CO. I don't know were Margaret died. William arrived from Ulster,
IRE on the ship Snow "JOHN and MARY" on Jan 12, 1768 at Charleston, SC. When
the clerk administered the oath he called them "poor protestants" who had
lately arrived. The Snow is a type of ship with two masts, resembling the
main and fore-masts of a ship and a third small mast just above the
mainmast, carrying a try-sail. William arrived with what is believe several
family members; Wife - Margaret and three sons; James, Alexander and John.

William received land grants on Feb 1, 1768 in Craven CO, SC. The law was
that the immigrants were suppose to start paying on the land after 10 years.
This maybe why the Turners left SC about 10 years after they had arrived.

In the book, "Leah Townsend's South Carolina Baptist 1670-1805" A William
and John Turner are mentioned several times as ordained Baptist ministers
and messengers to associational meetings. They were living in the
Spartenburg area. Another book that list many TURNER's is "Lest We Forget --
Cemeteries of Vernon Parish, LA (Revised Edition), Vols I, II, III," by Jane
Parker McManus. Vol II list most of the Turners.

His son, John TURNER who was born bet 1752-1765 in NC or SC. It is believed
he married a Martha ?? in abt 1790 in SC. They had the following known
children; Mary -1797, Joseph-abt 1794, Stephen-1795, Alexander-1800, James
C.-1802, Dempsey-abt 1803, and George C.-abt 1805. There may have been a
Jasper-unk, a David-unk, and a Sarah-unk born to this family also. All the
children were believed to have been born in SC.

John was living in Laurens CO, GA in 1820, by 1830 he'd moved to Henry CO,
AL and by 1850 he was living in Walton CO, FL were some of his sons were
living.

If this is your family I would love to share information with you.
