Donald MCoon, Columbiaville
Died Sunday, October 26, 1997 at his residence. He was 79. He was born
March 26, 1918 in Minnesota and moved to Tuscola County as a child. He
graduated from Fairgrove High School and served in the US Army Air Corps
during World War II. He married the former Audrey Earlene Ballou on July
12, 1948 at Ferguson, Kentucky. She preceded him in death on February 3,
1979. He was employed with the State of Michigan for 36 years - first with
mental health at the Caro Regional Center, than as a DNR crew foreman at
Brighton and retired as a park ranger at the Hadley - Metamora Recreation
Ares. For many years Don traveled throughout the southern United States.
Survivors include one daughter, Donna and Daniel Haight of Columbiaviie;
seven grandchildren, Scott McCoon of Madison Heights, Judy and Terry Fair
of Vandenberg AFB, California, Cassandra Miller of Davison, Andrew Haight
of Columbiaville, Malissa and Cliff Moore of Van Alstyne, Texas, Amanda
and Nuesse Passi of Mililani, Hawaii, Jennifer Haight of Lapeer; three
brothers, Lyle and Frances McCoon of Caro, Dale and Ilene McCoon of Cass
City, Pat McCoon of Caro, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in
death by one son, Robert McCoon and one brother, Ormand ( Jim ) McCoon.
Funeral service was held at Collen Funeral Home of Caro Tuesday, October
28, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Calvin Blue of Caro United Methodist Church officiating.
Burial was in Indianfields Township Cemetery with military grave side services
under the auspices of the Caro VFW Post # 4164. Memorials may be made to
the McLaren Hospice, Lapeer.
