Subject: Lewis Davis Yancy Final Settlement Record? -- Nall Family?
Date: Tue, 26 Jul 2005 22:04:06 -0500
Hello!
I recently discovered that John D. Graves of Franklin Co., KY last two wives were daughters of William Nall III and Ann Eleanor Yancy. Third he married Winifred Nall and last Nancy Nall. Winifred and Nancy's brother Gabriel married Frances Tutt Winifred, Nancy and Gabriel's sister Mary Nall married Lewis Yancy Tutt.
See John D. Graves will: http://www.tsgraves.com/wills/johnGraves_new.htm
and family tree: http://www.gravesfa.org/gen111.htm
I am following slaves in the TUTT family from VA to Central MO to Northeast MO in Marion and Ralls Co., As it turns out -- the TUTT, YANCY, NALL clan is the one constant in owning slaves in both sides of my father's family. It has become a very interesting project.
I am having trouble tracking down the probate of John D. Graves; whose last wife was Nancy Nall. Nancy's father also Martin Nall III was the administrator of Lewis Yancy Tutt's estate. I wondering if anyone has the appraisement and final settlement of Lewis Yancy Tutt's estate and/or Martin Nall III's final settlement records.
I did find one of my enslaved relatives in the estate papers of Martin Nall IV.
John D. Graves was married 4 times; and apparently in 1854-56 -- his the division of his estate was contested by his children. I hired a researcher who tells me that there is no estate record or deeds on John D. Graves; so perhaps the place to look for connections is via his last two wives family who owned several slaves. After John D. Graves died; it appears that his children went to Lewis CO., MO where my research picks up. Actually I am following the slaves in the TUTT family in Central MO via my father's side of the family; only to discover that the TUTTs married into the NALLS & OVERTON and WRIGHTs who owned my dad's mother's side of the family.
John D. Graves youngest daughter +9.Martha Graves, b. 20 Nov. 1825, m. John Henry Wright, Jan. 1855, d. 27 Dec. 1903 in Lewis CO., MO. Maybe this is Nancy Nall's daughter.
My ancestor Lewis Mundy is mentioned in the slave narratives & notes his family's owners were BILLY GRAVES and JOHN WRIGHT
Slave NarrativesInterviewee: Mundy, Lewis Lewis Mundy, now living ...
Lewis Mundy, now living on West Center Street, Hannibal, Missouri, was born in

1870 Lewis Mundy's cousin Clory (my ggggreat grandmother) is widowed & blind, living with her daughter Serilda Johnson & her husband Willis and other family members in Lewis Co, MO -- Canton. A couple of doors down from her household is a Dudley W. Overton.. who married Dulcenia Nall -- daughter of Martin Nall IV. Clory also has two mulatto daughters with the surname of OVERTON. I found Clory in Martin's estate papers; and Clory was given to Dudley Overton. There is more to the estate file; but this is the essence.
I didn't think to ask what happened to John's wife Nancy Nall.. that sorta of slipped my mind. But I am trying to find a way to put the slave transactions together in addition to the will:
Found these record; but I need the whole record to understand what happened with slaves...
