Volunteers are currently in the process of creating an inventory from
scratch of all the graves in North Belton Cemetery in Bell County. As
the largest cemetery in Belton, it has about 4,000 graves and is very
well kept up. Unfortunately, records prior to the 1970s were filed
under plot purchaser's name, not the buried individual. (Not a good
deal for researchers!) Not only is the cemetery association gaining a
new database to keep upwith this effort, we are going to post the
inventory on the web with lots of grave photos.
Volunteer Mary Duke initiated this project and works out there
frequently to add to the list. We had a group work session on April 13
and made the front page of the Temple Daily Telegram. (Great article by
Pat Benoit!) We've posted a couple of transcribed pieces in the
archives. Our next inventory walkthrough group session will be May 18.
(All volunteers certainly welcome to come out.) Here's a couple of
pages we put up for this cemetery:

Perhaps one day we will have an ambitious project for the huge Hillcrest
Cemetery in Temple!
I am also working on the final touches for the historical cemetery
marker application for Taylor's Valley Cemetery in Bell County. Just
need to complete the photo hardcopies and confirm some facts, and then
it's off to Gerron Hite. :)
