Tammy,
It's an excellent idea. I've looked into something like this, but, truth
is, the task is monumental. With 254 counties in Texas and some of the
counties having 100 or more cemeteries, it adds up quick. The cemeteries
that are inventoried are in a list form (and would need to be reinventoried
or converted to the database). Find-A-Grave also has listings for some of
the Texas cemeteries, too.
What if..... we set up a search engine. We could set up (build) the search
engine to search pages that are inventories (readings, transcriptions, etc)
of Texas Cemeteries that exist on the internet. When you found a site with
information - you (or anyone out there) could add the page to the search
engine. If lots of folks worked on this (adding sites and pages to the
search engine), we could build a pretty substantial "database" of info.
This would take care of the existing info - then all we'd need would be a
database to add new info.
What do you think?
