Moffat Cemetery Association will be hosting a ceremony to dedicate the
cemetery's new historical marker from the Texas Historic Commission on
Saturday, November 27, at 2pm. Moffat Cemetery is located about 5 miles
west of the Temple airport and about 1/2 mile East of Lake Belton on the
North side of State Highway 36 which goes from Temple to Gatesville.
Prominent Temple attorney Jim D. Bowmer will be the speaker. Mr Bowmer and
his late wife his wife started Peaceable Kingdom retreat for sick kids in
the hospitals which is located at the upper end of Stillhouse Lake. Both
were the first to receive the Frank Mayborn Award.

According to association representative Steve Stephens, over 70 people
donated to this effort. Moffat Cemetery Association is not a perpetual care
cemetery, so it depends on donations to maintain the cemetery. At present,
only the man who does the mowing is paid. Everything else done is by
volunteer workers including the records, selling lots, bookkeeping etc.

Congratulations to Steve Stephens and the other volunteers for their great
work in acquiring this marker!
