After the courthouses burned, a request may have been put out for people
with their copies of documents to come back in so they could replace
whatever they could. I was at a courthouse in Virginia and the clerk told me
the same thing about the courthouse being burned, like so many were doing
the Civil War. My cousin and I were decided what the heck we were there so
we went thru what they had, and discovered old replacement deeds and other
certificates the family had brought in. When we asked the clerk she said
"oh yes some families did that." It is just harder to find.

These documents are not filed with the original dates, they may be filed by
the dates they were brought back in. Worth a try.
