This is such a heart breaking disgrace. While we are trying to locate,
document and work toward preservation of cemeteries around the State, we have a few
members of the younger generation trying to destroy those same places.

Either we don't have strong enough laws or they are not strongly enforced. My
personal opinion is that in these cases, the "children" and parents should be
required to pay some amount of restitution to replace the stones that can not
be uprighted and/or repaired. And they should be ordered by a judge to put in
community service hours until the cemetery has been cleaned and all stones
that are repairable have been repaired. Force them to document the cemetery and
research and do a history of the cemetery and donate their work to the local
Genealogical or Historical Society. May sound tough to some but after all, a
cemetery is sacred ground.

Nothing disgusts me more than reading an article such as this.
