Dear Stacey, August 26, 2008
Well, I was pleased as to how things unfolded last night. While the committee and the Parks Board never discussed having appoinmtents done through your board, I did not see a problem with this. However, if that in any way hinders a cemetery commission from doing its service to the city and to preservation, it will become a problem.
Therefore, I am specifically requesting that you place an item on your next agenda to discuss and clarify appointments, duties, et.al. of the proposed new city ordinance establishing this new segment of government. I am again going to echo the sentiment of all when I state that whatever is written as ordinance must conform to other cities who have proven that such commissions do indeed work to benefit all.
In addition, I am informing the city attorney and the council that requests have been made in order not to have any work redone. We have waited more than twenty years for this to happen... we do not need to rush anything at this point.
Please advise the appointed Cemetery Committee members as to the date and the time of the next Parks Board meeting.
Respectfully,
David W. Hartmann
