The above information was taken from several sources including
the "Mercer Colonists" by Gifford White which I obtained from
Amazon.com and a book found by a friend, "Highland Scots
Pattersons of North Carolina and Related Families" written and
copyrighted by Alex M. Patterson (Rear Admiral U.S. Navy (Ret)
who was living in Raleigh, NC at the time of the publication in
1979 (1st Edition) and 1981 (2nd Edition). The information has
not been verified or documented by the writer of this E-mail and
there may be errors.

I obtained copies of maps from the Texas State Archives for
Certificates 1172 through 1176 and for the overall Mercer Colony
which were helpful and interesting in my research. It is also
possible to obtain copies of the Mercer Colony deeds for the
different certificates.

In some documents the name Neill McMillan is spelled Neil and at
other times Neill.

In a copy of a page from a McMillan family Bible, the name
McMillan was spelled McMellan.

We would like to hear from anyone having information about the
above families or other North Carolina families that came to
Texas about 1850 to become Mercer Colonists.
