Abagail Johnson was born June 1847 in AL, dau of Jeremiah F. and Harriet Newnam Johnson. On 28 Nov 1866 in Lauderdale Co, MS, she married John W. Mooney, b 23 Jan 1837 in AL, son of John William Mooney and Frances Taylor. Their children were:

1) John Augustus K. Mooney b. Oct 1867, mar Anna Belle Kelly
2) Lula Harriet Mooney, b 9 Sept 1870, mar William Henderson Holcomb
3) Freeman Mooney, b abt 1874
4) William Mooney, b March 1876
5) Bertha A. Mooney, b. 19 Aug 1878
6) Walter Mooney, b Apr 1881, mar Estelle Harville, Gladys Turner
7) Roscoe Mooney, b Jul 1884, mar Alice D. Pierce
8) Orrie Mae Mooney, b 16 Aug 1886, mar Edward T. Miller

If traditional naming practices were followed, and it appears they were, then the 2nd son Freeman Mooney was named for the mother's father, Jeremiah F. Johnson. My guess is the middle initial "F" was for Freeman. My aunt, who started me down this twisted path of genealogy, always believed there was a Freeman ancestor back there somewhere, but was never able to prove it. To support that theory is the fact that the 1860 Census for Lauderdale Co, MS shows a G.A. Freeman family where John N. Johnson, age 17, is living. John N. Johnson was the brother of Abagail.

When Abagail and husband John moved from Lauderdale Co, MS to Houston Co, TX is not certain. Abagail died in 1916 in Henderson Co, TX. Her husband John died in 1889 in Augusta, Houston Co, TX Not sure where they are buried, but would like to know.

If you recognize any of these names, please contact me.
Thanks,
Cathy Garrett
