Mary Bethany/Thomas Bethany/J W Bethany/Terry/Woods/South Carolina to Alabama to Texas

I am trying to establish a relationship between Mary and Thomas Bethany. I have a James Waller Bethany married to Mary Adeline Woods. (my 2nd great grandparents, married 17 Aug 1843, Perry, Alabama)Thomas was born 1777 in South Carolina. His wife Rebecca was born 1795 in South Carolina. Mary was born 1798 in South Carolina. It is said that she married a Micajah Terry. Mary and Micajah are listed on the 1850 US Federal Census, Austin County on the same page as Thomas and James Waller Bethany. I know that Thomas was the father of J W Bethany. I have now seen two references as to the father of Mary. One is Thomas Bethany, who could have been if he was married to someone else prior to Rebecca. Now I am reading that Mary was the daughter of a J W Bethany of Columbia, South Carolina. I am curious as to the actual relationship between Thomas and Mary.
