"Ernst Ferdinand Ludwig Rordorf was also my ggfather
My great grandmother was Bertha Rordorf Melcher
I have been unable to find much information about the rordorfs except that he came to the US in 1849 and was naturalized in Austin County in 1858 They were listed also in the 1880 Census and Mathilde Rordorf lived with Bertha Melcher in Black Jack Springs at the time of the 1900 Census."
So nice to meet you! These Rordorf were such a mystery for the longest time but I've got a few pieces now to fit between the gaps. For instance, there is an a marriage record for Ernst Ferdinand Ludwig Bertholdt Rordorf in Austin Co in 1858 when he married Fredericka Dorothea Christian Sternberg. (Don't know who the heck she is or what happened to her but there does happen to be a Sternberg cemetery at Roundtop in Fayette.)
I've found a fair amount of census info for Rordorfs (misspelled everywhich way from Rortof to Rordork) and would be glad to share.
First I thought my gg-grandmother's father was Ernst but she is found in the census in the household of a Dr. Louis Von Rordorf and his wife, Mathilda -- with quite a few sisters, including Bertha! Not sure what this means but am guessing that Ernst died and his brother or cousin, Louis, took the kids, then had some of his own. Maybe even married the widow?
Does any of this make sense with info you have? Emilia had eight siblings, the seven I've been able to find have all been girls, so were initially hard to trace but I've got some married names now. Two sisters married Loessin men, and the Loessins I've been in touch with sent info, including pictures, of Emilia and one sister, who was named Matilda like her mother. The Loessins mentioned that they also married Melchers, btw.
