Thanks, so much. My line comes from Thomas Standifer, the father of my grandmother. I do know of
and have used the websites you so kindly sent. I moved from Austin 15 months ago to just North of
Dallas and I regret never having made it to Bastrop and Elgin before we moved. Ironically, I lived
in Elgin as a child, during WWII, from about 1941 to 1945 and attended the old red brick grammar
school there. My mother, the Standifer, cared nothing for genealogy and I'm sure had no idea that
Hogeye (love that awful name!) was where her grandfather came from. As others, I waited until they
were all gone to start seriously searching the family. I have been to the State Archives in Austin and
have copies of the land grants of Elizabeth Standifer and the other documents associated with that.
As it stands now, my book will have to be a "based on the life of", as I am finding actual records
hard to come by. But I will continue to look!!
Best regards,
Cerise Blair

Cerise,
I presume you have seen this: http://www.carolyar.com/Anderson.htm
Many of Elizabeth Standifer's descendants live in the Elgin area today,
although there is no one who bears the Standifer name, which I have always
thought was odd. There are Sandifer's but they come from a different line
altogether. In addition Ruth Crowson, in Austin, a descendant of Michael
Young (see the site above) has done a lot of research on the Standifers. I
own a house in Elgin built by one of Elizabeth's grandson's in 1909 when
they moved into town from the farm.
If you have specific questions I'll see if I can find some answers, but our
resources in the museum are usually 20th century. I'd be thrilled if you
kept in touch with us as your reasearch progresses.
My email at the depot museum is
