Pam,
I hope you don't completely rule out the Joseph Nuton Sutton you found. Is
his age about right? He may have married in 1898, but things could have
changed in two years--another marriage is not completely out of the question
by 1900, though I believe the number of years married was one of the
questions on the census. Could the woman's name be a nickname?

Also, the census records are not mistake proof, and his place of birth could
have been wrong. I have seen Tennessee, Mississippi and North Carolina given
as my gr. gr. grandfather's birthplace, in different census years.

Just something to think about...!
