Sherry!
A lot of the settlers that came to Bell Co. from TN. after the Civil War--
Came from Van Buren, White and Warren Co. I have the Census for Van Buren
and there were lots of Payne's in Van Buren Co. I will check the census
tomorrow to see if your James Granvil is there. Do you know his
mother -father--or siblings?
