Subject: [TXBELL] "GTT" Gone to Texas

Hi everyone! Both my parents were born in Bell County
but moved to Beaumont, Tx, where I was born. We were
in Killeen so much that I feel I'm a native of Bell
County. My husband and I lived in San Antonio for
quite a number of years and then moved to Virginia to
help our son with a 3 year old. I've been doing a lot
of genealogy work up and found that nearly all of my
ancestors and my husband's came from Virginia. Most
went to Alabama and then to Texas, some to GA, & MS.
Virginia history, (as you all probably know), is so
important to all of us but they teach it as American
History in this County. You never call Virginia
"North". They will tell you quickly it is the South.
In my research I found that during the early 1800's
there were many that moved to Texas because of the
economic problems up here, and when they left they put
a sign on their property - "GTT", and everyone knew
that that meant Gone To TEXAS. (A side note: There are
many Dallas Cowboy fans up here). It helps because we
miss Texas so much. Thanks for all the participation
on this site. I've enjoyed reading it all.
