ENGINE ROD KILLS TEMPLE BRAKEMAN

S H Fritz victim of peculiar accident near Milano

SH Fritz, brakeman, was instantly killed yesterday when struck in the head
by some part of the connecting rod or piston of a Santa Fe engine, while
attempting to sand the rails on a siding at Elevation, five miles south of
Milano. Extra 3147, north, took the siding at Elevation for passenger train
No 6 yesterday afternoon about 1:25. The engine apparently began slipping
when going in on the siding and Brakeman Fritz, while attempting to hammer
the sand pipe to assist in getting sand on the rail, is though to have lost
his balance about the time the engine gained headway and was struck by
either the connecting rod or piston rod with instantly fatal results.

The body was brought to Temple on No 6.

Mr. Fritz is survived by a wife, mother, one brother and six sisters, all of
whom will be present for the funeral. Mr. and Mrs. C.C. Graves, the latter
a
sister of the deceased, were expected to arrive from Silsbee, Tex., last
night.

The funeral services will be conducted from the family residence, 1014 West
Central Avenue, this afternoon at 3:30 o'clock by Rev Parker of Belton.

The pallbearers are: Active-J.C. Gilley, L Patterson, Will Booley, John
Durden, John Power and Jim Cargile. The honorary pallbearers will be
composed of the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen of which he was a member.
The brotherhood will have charge of the service at the cemetery. Interment
will be at the City Cemetery.
