Joe,
I have some extra copies of that Temple paper. It was very interesting
to see the statistics Pat quotes about the dollars spent in the state by
"heritage tourism". Those of us who come to a community to search for our
ancestors in cemeteries and court houses stay longer and spend more money
than other tourists. Guess this genealogy stuff is not just a "little
thing" after all.

She also says that for every $1 million dollars spent in Heritage
Travelers that 22 jobs are created. I am happy to report that I did my
share. The trip down to Bell County last weekend cost me $1600 by the time
I got the transmission replaced in my car and got back down there today to
pick up my car. So a couple of mechanics made a few bucks, too, while I
spent my time in the cemeteries.

Now that I have my car back and don't have that hanging over my head I
will be able to concentrate on getting the North Belton Cemetery
transcriptions from Mary Lou and the other volunteers online. I will also
be getting the photographs some of you sent me, scanned and over to Joe to
post on the Bell County Website as soon as he has that part ready to go.

I will be going back down on June 15th. We are having a family reunion
for McDowell - Cowan related families. Everyone related to these families
and the descendents of William McDowell & Margaret Mary Campbell which
includes my branch of John Woods Cowan and Margaret Wilson McDowell. Other
McDowell relatives are Bowles, Jordan, Murphy, Hood, Dillard, Davis, Ranne,
Estes, Townsend, Murphy, Mitchell, Glenn, Griffin, Thompson, Trousdale, and
so many others. If you are related to any of these families, come join us
at the Nolan Valley Baptist Church on Hwy 93 at noon on the 15th.

Someone mailed me the entire article clipped from the
Temple paper. I guess what was posted to the
discussion list was only partial, since there was
substantially more and the website links were listed at
the end. Great article by Pat Benoit! Our volunteer
site got some nice exposure in the local area. :)
