I may be jumping the gun here in mentioning this, but I am so excited to have received the final section of the North Belton Cemetery transcription project undertaken by Mary Lou Duke.

I have sent the file to Lola at Rootsweb to be entered into the Bell County Site. As soon as she has it posted I will notify you all and give you the link to access the site.

Mary Lou has worked so hard and such incredibly long hours in getting this cemetery complete. She counted all the graves and there was a total of 8082. This is a monumental task and is unbelievable how quickly she got it done. Even though several of us helped her for one day, Mary Lou took on the task of getting it done and recorded the bulk of the tombstone information by going out every night and physically recording those names and dates. After that she had to type them all up and get the information into a readable format. And now that this is done she has volunteered to do another one!

Another amazing thing worth mentioning is that even though Mary Lou lives in Belton, she is not a native and has no ancestors from that area. She is doing all this, including all those lookups for people individually, simply to help those of us who do not live in Bell County. Her work has made it possible for so many of us to find our ancestors and in many cases to close the gap in a family line that also connects us to other lines. If you are into genealogy, you know how exciting a little thing like that can be.

Mary Lou, our heartfelt thanks and appreciation goes to you for your contributions to this site that will be available for many generations to come. It may seem like you are "just helping out" but the impact of this task and the other contributions that you have made will have an enormous impact on the value of this Bell County Website to those researching their families from this area (like me!). Joe and I and all those on the Bell County list would like you to know that you are appreciated by all of us.

I know this will be embarrassing for you to read, but Mary Lou, enjoy the praise knowing that you earned it.
