Louise,
Do you know anything about the Halbert family that you mentioned? I am
also a descendant of Halberts. My great grandmother was Naomi Halbert. She
was born in Cherokee County, Texas near Rusk, Texas as were so many of her
Halbert family. The first Halbert that I have in our family who came to
Texas was Stephen Halbert and he settled in Cherokee county. I was just
wondering if you knew if your Halberts had any background in Cherokee
County, Texas. My Naomi Halbert married Jefferson Davis Lemmon in Erath
County, Texas and they moved to Ferris, Texas in Ellis county and she died
in Lancaster, Texas in Dallas county when she was very old. They are both
buried at the Edgewood Cemetery in Lancaster, Texas.

Message Board Post:

WJohn and Comfort Cate/s came to the Bell County area around 1850. They had
a large family (all probably born in the 1840's) which I am trying to
reconstruct from census records, etc.:
1.Mary A. married George W. Holbert/Halbert, who died in the Civil War.
She later married Thomas B. Whitley.
2.Hannah married George Covington.
3.One of the girls married William B. Arnold.
4.Susan married John Clary (my family)
5. John married Sarah Bouldin?
6. William married Lucy Dora Fuller.
7. Isaac (don't think he married)
8. Adaline - unaccounted for
9. Margaret - unaccounted for
10. Martha - unaccounted for
11. Malinda - unaccounted for
There probably were many descendants in Bell and surrounding counties. I
will appreciate any information.
Louise
