Hello Charlie,
Would you have any references to a William Burrage Armstrong(1819-1897) in
your files? Supposedly he was among those involved in the founding of
Salado and the Salado Hotel. I have some info on the family. Trying to
resolve an issue re: his first wife --perhaps a Mary Edge--and mother of my
ancestor, Mathias Armstrong.

This is in response to Mr. Frank Durant who has inquired about people in
Salado, Texas, connected with the college and early hotel here.

I have looked at my data base for Salado College 1860-1924 and don't find
your ancestor listed as a faculty member. However, we don't have many of
the faculty names because of fires that occured at the school in 1901 and
1924, destroying all the inhouse school records.

I also checked my Salado database for your relative at the Shady Villa with
no success. I have pictures of the old Shady Villa but your ancestor's name
is not listed among the various folks early-on associated with the Salado
Hotel - Shady Villa.

I'm publishing a book on Salado College around the first of 2006 and
continuing to do some research on the people involved in the early history
of the College and Village. I will keep these names handy and contact you
if I locate anything on them. Likewise, if you discover information about
them that links them to early Salado, I'm very interested.
