I am trying to put together a document which will assist people attempting to
research their ancestors or info about the county. Being on the Bowie Co
website as a looker upper, I get lots of requests as to what is available.
Would like for us to have a good listing.
Please comment, add to, modify the following:

Research in and about Bowie County, Texas
COURTHOUSE-No records prior to 1889 when the courthouse burned (some records
prior to that time were refiled)
TEXARKANA LIBRARY-Has genealogy section, microfilms of some census, 1846+
Bowie Co Tax Records
TEXARKANA COLLEGE LIBRARY-Has microfilms of Texarkana newspapers from 1886
NEW BOSTON LIBRARY-Has genealogy section, microfilms of 11th, 23rd and 32nd
Texas Cavalry, CSA, cemetery books covering all of Bowie Co. New Boston
newspapers destroyed by fire in 1980's, no microfilms.
Marland and Jean Olds has ???
Frances Fox has ???
NEED OTHER POINTS OF CONTACTS AMD SUBJECTS
OTHER TOWNS-Dekalb has small museum, Hooks and Maud have small libraries, not
much genealogy
CIVIL WAR-Mike McCrary in Dekalb and Chris Woodrow in New Boston have
information of most of the members of units from Bowie and some other
counties.
Confederate Research Center, Hillsboro, Texas is a great research facility.
MASONS-Texas Grand Lodge and Museum in Waco, Texas, has membership cards on
almost all members of the lodges in Texas, giving dates, locations, etc.
CLARKSVILLE NEWSPAPER-Clarksville Library has microfilm of copies back to
1846 and some indexes. Has lots of Bowie Co information
EAST TEXAS STATE UNIVERSITY AT COMMERCE-Has a lot on information on Bowie Co
in archives
SOUTHWEST ARKANSAS REGIONAL ARCHIVES AT OLD WASHINGTON, AR, has early
(1810-1841) information on Bowie Co since Bowie Co was a part of ARK then
EARLY WRITTEN HISTORY-very little exists. Watlington's Manuscripts, covering
the History of Bowie Co was written in 1920. James Lynch's writings/drawings
covering Boston and Bowie Co were written and drawn in 1948. Some newspaper
articles from the 1920.
LDS FAMILY HISTORY CENTER-has copies of the Bowie Co cemetery books
INTERNET SITES-USGENWEB (Bowie Co site, Name Forums), Jo Autry's Bowie Co
website, Texas Handbook Online, Texarkana Genealogy Society Website
