Julius J. Scheffelin, a former resident of Texarkana, Texas, died April 11, 2002, in Uvalde, Texas.
Mr. Scheffelin was born March 4, 1916 in New Kensington, Pa. but spent his youth in Ohio. After serving in the Army Air Force in WWII, he moved to Texarkana in 1946 where he resideed until 1999. He was employed by the Post Office Department and Red River Army Depot.
For several years he was an active volunteer with the Caddo Area Boy Scouts and the Conifer Girl Scouts. He had served as a board member for Southwest Regional Archives, Texarkana Historical Society and Museum and Texarkana Genealogical Society. Other activities included member of the Texarkana, Texas Community School Advisory Committee, Friends of the Library, Lifetime member Christus St. Michael Hospital Guild.
Mr. Scheffelin was a memer of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a Life Member of the Knights of Columbus. He also had written a genealogy column "heritage Hunting" for the Texarkana Gazette.
Survivors include his wife of sixty years, Virginia Henaon Scheffelin; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Diane Scheffelin of Austin; two daughters and one son-in-law, Kay Scheffelin of Austin; and Judy and Thomas Taylor of Barksdale; two grandsons, David Lusk and wife Claudine of Atlanta, Georgia and Lt. Greg Lusk of Albany, Georgia; three granddaughters, Lena Teffer and husband Dean, Kate Taylor and Brenda Houck of Austin; three great grandsons, Trevor Lusk, Tommy Lusk and Tucker Lusk; many nieces and nephews; brother and sister-in-law, Edward and Margaret Scheffelin of Sacremento, Ca.;sister, Gizella Edie, Sacremento, Ca.; sister-in-law, Cecilla Pinkerton of Texarkana.
A memorial service will be held at 5:00 pm Saturday, April 13, 2002 at the Episcopal Chrch of the Ascension in Montell, Texas with Rev. Don Lee officiating.
