JESUS HERRERA, 82, passed away July 16, 2006. Funeral mass will be at 2 p.m.
today, Wednesday, July 19, 2006, at Christ the King Catholic Church in
Brownsville with interment to follow at Las Palmas Cemetery. Funeral

CONCEPCION CRUZ, 67, passed away on July 13, 2006. Funeral Mass will be at
10 a.m. today, July 19, 2006, at Queen of the Universe Catholic Church in
San Benito, with interment to follow to Mont Meta Memorial Park. Funeral

JOE BARRIENTOS, 106, of San Benito passed away Tuesday, July 18, 2006, at
Valley Baptist Medical Center-Harlingen. Funeral arrangements have been

JOYCE ANNA SLAGER
Joyce Anna Slager, of Rancho Viejo, went home to be with her Lord on Monday
morning, July 17, 2006.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert R. Slager, and her
grandson, Brad Slager.

Left to mourn her death are her sister, Jeanette Haugh of Illinois; her
sons, David R. (Linda) Slager, and Robert A. (Christine) Slager; her
grandchildren, Vickie (Doug) Elley, Russell A. (Sandra) Slager and Rachel F.
(Jimmy) Lee, along with six great-grandchildren.

A memorial service celebrating the life of Mrs. Slager will be at 11 a.m.
Satuday, July 22, 2006, at First Baptist Church, 1600 Boca Chica Blvd.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations in Mrs. Slager's
name be made to the First Baptist School, 1600 Boca Chica Blvd.,
Brownsville, TX, 78520.

LYDIA RODRIGUEZ LOPEZ
Lydia Rodriguez Lopez, 74, went into eternal rest on Sunday, July 16, 2006,
at Valley Baptist Medical Center-Brownsville. She was born on Sept. 17,
1931. She was a lifelong resident of Brownsville.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Abelardo O. Lopez Sr.; parents
Andres Rodriguez and Juanita Trevino Rodriguez; and brothers Arturo
Rodriguez and Alberto Dunes.

Mrs. Lopez is survived by her children to whom she dedicated her whole life
to, Evangelina L. Lara, Abelardo Lopez Jr., Ernesto R. Lopez, Sylvia L.
Stevens, Rigoberto R. Lopez, Lionel R. Lopez, and Imelda L. Lopez; 16
grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Visitation was from 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, July 18, 2006.

Rosary was at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 18, 2006, at Funeraria Del Angel Buena
Vista.

Church service will be at 3 p.m. today, July 19, 2006, at Christ the King
Catholic Church. Interment will follow after the mass at Roselawn Memorial
Park.

Serving as pallbearers will be Andrew Lopez, Jose Abelardo Lopez, Ernesto
Lopez III, Adrian Lopez, Jody Peña, Refugio Leija. Honorary Pallbearers will
be Telesforo Loya and Fransisco Lopez Jr.

Funeral services have been entrusted to Funeraria Del Angel Buena Vista,

DR. LUIS GILBERTO GALVAN SALCEDO
Dr. Luis Gilberto Galvan Salcedo, 58, of Brownsville, died Monday, July 17,
2006, at his home. Born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mex-ico, he previously
lived in Avon Lake, Ohio, and lived the last 25 years in Brownsville. He was
a surgeon with a specialty in obstet-rics. He graduated from the University
of Guadalajara-School of Medicine on Jan. 4, 1978, at the age of 29. He was
still in active practice.

A joyous man, he lived life to the fullest. Stopping to visit with all his
many patients and friends, walking his beloved dog could take two hours as
he went throughout the neighborhood. He was giving and warm and dedicated to
his patients. He loved to dance and enjoyed rock 'n' roll music and his
mariachis. He was a big Dallas Cowboys football and Chivas soccer fan. He
was actively involved in the local kickball league. Dr. Galvan was readily
available to volunteer at local school functions.

He was the beloved husband for 31 years of Susan Galvan. He is survived by
his mother, Brigida Salcedo; his sisters, Ofelia Gal-van Salcedo, Martha
Galvan Salcedo and Guadalupe Galvan Salcedo; and his brother, Mario Galvan
Salcedo, all of Guadalajara, Mexico; his daughters, Sarah Nicole Galvan of
San Antonio and Michelle Susan Galvan Mendez (Mario Mendez-husband) of
Hous-ton.

He was preceded in death by his father, Alejandro Galvan Diaz.

Visitation will begin from 1 to 5 p.m. today, Wednesday, July 19, 2006, at
Darling-Mouser Funeral Home. The body will be trans-ferred to St. Luke's
Catholic Church and visitation will resume at 6:30 p.m., followed by the
recitation of the holy rosary at 7 p.m. at St. Luke's.

The Mass of Resurrection will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 20, 2006, followed
by interment at Buena Vista Burial Park.

Johnathan Z. Galvan, Juan Zarate, Pat Lehman, Mario Mendez, Art Rendon,
Isaac Zarate, Juan M. Zarate Jr., and Miguel Zarate are honored to be
serving as Dr. Galvan's pallbearers. Serving as honorary pallbearers are
Alfonso Amezcua, Rayner Cardenas, Javier Garza, and Paul Leal.

DANNY ALAN BUSH
Danny Alan Bush, 58, of Pascagoula, Miss., passed away on July 16, 2006, in
Pascagoula. He was born on March 28, 1948. Danny was a shrimper all his
life.

He is preceded in death by his father, Joe Bush; his mother, Peggy Williams;
and brother Ronnie Lee Bush.

"We have lost a great man, but to live in the hearts of those we leave

Visitation will be Thursday, July 20, 2006, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Heritage
Funeral Home in Escatawpa, Miss. Services will be at 3 p.m. in the chapel at
Heritage Funeral Home.

Burial will follow at Jackson County Memorial Park in Pascagoula, Miss.

Arrangements by Heritage Funeral Home, Escatawpa, Miss., locally owned and
operated.

ROBERTO R. MELENDEZ
Roberto R. Melendez, 96, of Brownsville entered into eternal rest at his
residence surrounded by his loving family Sunday, July 16, 2006.

A member of a pioneer Brownsville family, Mr. Melendez was associated with
the Colunga Bus Company for many years as a driver. He proudly served his
country during World War II in the U.S. Army, Company A, 260th Engineers
Combat Battalion.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carmen Martinez Melendez; a son,
Ramiro Melendez; a grandson, Robert Tony Melendez; his parents, Telesforo
Melendez and Lucinda Rendon Melendez; and his brothers and sisters.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Roberto Melendez Jr., Reynaldo
Melendez, Rodolfo Melendez (Jovita), all of Brownsville, Rene Melendez (Kim)
of Minnesota and Lucinda Wright of Brownsville. Also surviving are 15
grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Honored to serve as Mr. Melendez's pallbearers are Roberto Melendez, Jr.,
Rodolfo Melendez, Rene Melendez, Ramiro Melendez, Eddie Wright and Joe
Guerra Jr.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. with the recitation of the holy rosary
at 7:30 p.m. today, Wednesday, July 19, 2006, in the Dar-ling-Mouser Funeral
Home chapel.

Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 20, 2006,
in Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, 1055 Military Highway, with
Father Jorge Guillen officiating. Interment will follow at the Brownsville
City Cemetery with the rendition of Taps by his nephew, Noe Sanchez, and
other military honors to be provided by members of the American Legion Post
43 Honor Guard.




JOE PADRON
Joe Padron, 70, entered into eternal rest with the Lord on Monday, July 17,
2006, at Valley Baptist Medical Center, surrounded by his beloved family. He
was born Dec. 25, 1935, in Brownsville to Angelita and Nieves Padron.

Joe was a lifelong native of Brownsville and retired after 25 years from
Levis Strauss.

He is proceeded in death by his parents, Angelita, and Nieves Padron; one
brother, Roberto (+Mary Lou) of Wis.; and one sister, Maria Luisa (+Ramon)
Vela, of Florida.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years of marriage, Celina L. Padron;
one daughter, Mayte P. (Guillermo Jr.) Gonzalez; two sons, Jose Carlos
Padron and Richard (Elena) Padron. He is also survived by three sisters,
Virgina P. (+Juventino) Olivares of Brownsville, Maria De Jesus P. (Jesse)
Perez of Harlingen, Lydia P. (+Jose) Ramirez of Brownsville; two brothers,
Nieves (+Lydia) Padron Jr. of McAllen, and Oscar (Alicia) Padron of
Brownsville; grandchildren, Guillermo Gonzalez III, Mayte Gonzalez, Jose
Carlos Padron Jr., Emilio Padron, Richard Padron Jr., and Alejandra Padron.

Psalms" 26:8.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, Wednesday, July 19, 2006,
with a holy rosary at 7 p.m. at Delta North Chapel. Fu-neral service will be
at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 20, 2006, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic
Church. Interment will follow to Buena Vista Cemetery.
