LOIS EARL ATEN, 71, passed away on Sunday Aug. 6, 2006, at Valley Regional
Medical Center in Brownsville. Funeral arrangements are pending under
Funeraria Del Angel Buena Vista, 125 McDavitt Blvd., Brownsville, TX 78521.

RUTH MARIE METZGER
Absent from the body present with the Lord, Ruth Marie Metzger had her
graduation today, Aug. 7, 2006, at the age of 75. Ruth was born Sept. 16,
1930, in Glen Clove, Long Island, N.Y., to Charles Rowland and Mabel Evelyn
Shaw.
She loved the Lord and served as a missionary since 1959, in Brownsville and
Mexico. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and
will be missed dearly. But we know she is with her savior, whom she loved so
much.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Lorraine Claire Aguilar, Sept.
22, 1993.
She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Roy Metzger; their
children, Mabel (Tino) Gomez, Willie (Steve) Cody, Mike (Leeza) Metzger,
William (Sandra) Metzger and Jeff (Fela) Metzger; a son-in-law; Joe Aguilar;
grandchildren, Eliza-beth (Ruben) Gomez, Jennifer (Sergio) Moore, Catherine
(Chad) Kovar, Mel Aguilar, Susan (Wes) Aguilar, Chris and Casey Metzger,
Isarel Herevia, Anita Paiz, Nadia and Joel Alaniz, Steve II (Lupita), Tim,
Elizabeth Cody, William, Vanessa Lorraine Metzger, Abram-Lee, and Ezequiel
Metzger; great-grandchildren, James Gomez, Tino Garcia, Abby and Breanna
Kovar, Steve III, Audrey, and Ryan Cody.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., with the family greeting friends
from 5 to 7 p.m. and an evening service at 7 p.m., today, Aug. 8, 2006, in
the Darling-Mouser Chapel.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2006, at
Darling-Mouser Funeral Home with burial to follow at Roselawn Memorial
Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Mike, William, Jeffery Metzger, Steve Cody II, Chad
Kovar and William Metzger Jr.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made in memory of
Ruth to one of her favorite causes, which is Christmas Bags for the needy
children in Mexico. Donations can be sent to Baptist Temple, 1201 N. Regan,
San Benito, TX 78586. The funeral home can be reached at (956) 399-2274.
A special thanks goes out to Dr. Darvy Fuller, Dr. K and staff at Valley
Baptist Medical Center-Brownsville, for all their loving care.

JOSEFINA V. CANTU
Josefina V. Cantu, 94, entered into eternal rest on Aug. 6, 2006.
She and her husband, Tomas C. Cantu owned and operated La Colonial Grocery
Store in San Benito until retirement.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tomas C. Cantu; her parents, Simon
and Nicolasa Sanchez Villarreal; one sis-ter and two brothers.
She is survived by two daughters, Gloria Oralia Villarreal (Arnoldo) of
Brownsville, Hilda Strickland (James) of Hous-ton; three sons, Tomas C.
Cantu Jr. of Houston, Carlos C. Cantu (Maria) of Brownsville, and Simon V.
Cantu (Josefina) of San Benito; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren;
and two sisters, Julia V. Barrios of California and Concepcion V. Muñoz of
Brownsville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was a kind and loving person with a great sense of humor who always saw
the goodness in people whom she met. Her sons and daughters thank her for
being such a loving and caring mother.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Sister Jane,
Father Mathew, and to the Mother of Perpetual Help Nursing Home staff for
the care and compassion that was extended to Mrs. Cantu. They will remain
eternally grate-ful to them for all they did while she was in their care,
and to Dr. Lorenzo Pelly and the Valley Baptist Hospital staff.
Visitation for Mrs. Cantu will be from 1 to 9 p.m. with a holy rosary to be
recited at 7:30 p.m. today, Aug. 8, 2006, at San Benito Funeral Home Chapel

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday Aug. 9, 2006, at Our
Lady Queen of the Universe Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Mont
Meta Memorial Park, San Benito.
Funeral arrangements are under the care of San Benito Funeral Home, 1400
