ROBERT C. ZAGER, 85, of Brownsville, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2006,
at Valley Baptist Medical Center-Harlingen. A memorial service will be held
at 2 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 15, 2006, at Trinity Luthern Church, 901 Boca
Chica Blvd. Funeral arrangements under Darling-Mouser Funeral Home, 945 Palm
Blvd., (956) 546-7111.
ELETICIA R. LOPEZ, 46, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2006, at her
residence. She was a native of Crullias, Tamaulipas, and was a Brownsville
resident for most of her life. Visitation will be held today and funeral
services will be held Friday. Funeral arrangements are under Garza Memorial
Funeral Home, 1025 E. Jackson St., (956) 542-5511.
MRS. GUADALUPE RODRIGUEZ
Mrs. Guadalupe Rodriguez, 57, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday,
December 13, 2006 at Valley Baptist Medical Center-Brownsville. Visitations
will be held today, Thursday, December 14, 2006 at Guerra Funeral Home. In
lieu of flowers donations will be greatly appreciated to help cover funeral
expenses.

OPHELIA MCMILLIAN GREGORY
Ophelia McMillan Gregory was born in Amity, Ark., on Oct. 14, 1904, to John
Arch and Dovie Susan McMillan. She passed away on Saturday, Dec. 9, 2006 at
Retama Manor Nursing Home in Harlingen at the age of 102.
She was a resident of Little Rock, Ark., until 1931, when she moved to the
Lower Rio Grande Valley with her husband and two children. The family lived
in Santa Rosa and Edcouch until they moved to Harlingen in 1934. In 1994,
she moved to Brownsville and made her home with her daughter and son-in-law.
She was one of the oldest living members of the First Baptist Church of
Harlingen. She is a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary. For many
years she sold poppies on "Main Street" on Veterans' Day. She was also a
member of Du Bois-Hite Chapter of the NSDAR - Brownsville, Texas.
Ophelia was a homemaker who loved to cook and entertain family and friends.
Her hobbies included crocheting and quilting.
Our Nanny was very loved by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren
and she will be missed by all.
She is survived by a daughter, Monica E. Monk of Harlingen; son, Donald M.
(Billie Ruth) Gregory of San Antonio; grandchildren, Susan (Henry) Rogers of
Little Rock, Ark., John T. (Ruth) Monk, III of Harlingen; Linda Gale Gregory
of Bastrop, Texas, and William Scott Gregory of The Woodlands, Texas;
great-grandchildren, Christopher (Elizabeth) Rogers of Little Rock,
Elizabeth (Jesse) English of Dallas, J. Thomas Monk IV of Mountain View,
Calif., Mary Katherine Monk of Houston, Ann Marie Monk of Santa Rosa,
Calif., Kelsey Acosta and Shelby Acosta of Bastrop, Victoria Gregory,
Kenneth Gregory and Kevin Gregory of The Woodlands; nephew, Billy Frank
(Lori) Mitcham of Huntsville, Texas; niece, Dana Smith of Little Rock.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marion T. Gregory;
sister, Marjorie Smith; and twin sister Ouida Mitcham.
Visitation hours will be held from 12 to 9 p.m., with the family present
from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, Dec. 15, 2005 at the funeral home.
Graveside services only will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 16, 2006,
at Mont Meta Memorial Park with the Rev. Chris Hall officiating.
The family would like to thank Dr. Ferris for his care and Retama Manor for
their excellent and loving care of our Nanny.

ADELAIDA ALCOCER CASTILLO
Adelaida Alcocer Castillo, age 92, of Harlingen, Texas, peacefully entered
the kingdom of heaven on Dec. 11, 2006. She was born in Matamoros, Mexico,
to Maria Cerda Alcocer and Evaristo Alcocer.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Jose Saldaña and her second
husband, Alberto R. Castillo; a brother, Gregorio Alcocer; and a sister,
Antonia Gamez.
She is survived by her loving children, Adan Saldaña (Socorro), Eva Garza
(Manuel), Noe Saldaña (Teresa) and Ida Castillo-Adeigbe (Bayo); a sister,
Antonia Sawyer (Mike); numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and
great-great-grandchildren.
She will be remembered as the matriarch of the family that kept the family
united with her words of wisdom and incessant prayers. She was an active
member of Avondale Baptist Church in Harlingen. She was a woman of great
faith devoted to the will of God.
A very special "thank you", to the caring staff at Sunshine Haven and
Odyssey Hospice. Your words of comfort, loving care and tenderness have been
a true blessing to all of us.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. with a holy rosary to be recited at
7 p.m. today, Thursday, Dec. 14, in the Darling-Mouser Funeral Chapel.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 15, at Avondale
Baptist Church, 1926 La Paloma, Harlingen, Texas. Interment will follow at
Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito, Texas.

JACK HADEN
Long time Austinite, Jack Haden, died Dec. 9, 2006, after a five month fight
with pancreatic cancer.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Linda Davis Haden; their children,
Rita Jane and Tony and his wife Kristin and their grandchildren Grant,
Brett, and Megan. Also surviving are his parents, John and Merle Haden; a
brother, Tom Haden and a sister, Mary Ann Steffek and their families. Other
survivors include Linda's parents Charlie Davis and his wife Elsa of
Brownsville, Lois Davis Watford of Universal City, and Linda's brother Bill
Davis and his wife Lynda of Los Fresnos. He is also survived by seven
wonderful nieces and nephews; Sunde family stepbrother and sisters, Erik,
Elsa Marie, Kathy and Britta; Watford family stepbrother and sister, Larry
and Marcia; as well as a close network of cousins.
Jack worked as a filmmaker, video producer and journalist. He was a press
secretary for NASA, State Comptroller Bob Bullock and state Sen. Hector
Uribe. He produced video programming on the environment and story segments
for C-SPAN, The NBC Nightly News, and the Today Show. He lived a charmed
life that took him and Linda on career moves to Los Angeles, Las Vegas and
New York City before returning to Austin to raise their children.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 16 at
Cook-Walden Capital Parks in Pflugerville, Texas.
