Date: Wed, 7 Feb 2001 16:51:30 -0600

Jeremiah F. Johnson was born 26 Mar 1820 in Tennessee, married Harriet Newnam 21 Apr 1844 Perry Co, AL, died 3 Jan 1899 in Groveton, TX.

The 1850 Census shows him in Cherokee Co, AL.
The 1860 Census shows him in Cherokee Co, AL, also Lauderdale Co, MS
The 1870 Census shows him in Lauderdale Co, MS
The 1880 Census shows him in Houston Co, TX

The 1850 Census lists a 9yo William J. living with the family. Not sure if this was a child by a previous marriage, an orphaned relative, or what.

With wife Harriet he fathered a son John Newnam, b June 1845 in St. Clair Co, AL., and a daughter Abagail, b June 1847 in AL.

Jeremiah was a Baptist preacher in Alabama, Mississippi, and Texas. He was involved somehow in the formation of the Southern Baptist Convention.

Any information on this great great grandfather and his ancestors or descendants appreciated.
