Hello List Members,
I just joined the Comal and Hays County, Texas e-mail lists to research the
SCHNAUTZ and WILLIAMSON families of my new daughter-in-law. Is anyone on
these two lists researching these two families? Does anyone have an index
to the 1850 census of either county? Is it on the Internet somewhere that I
missed? I can get the census at Heritage Quest, but it has no 1850 census
index.
I am looking for the "roots" of Joseph Williamson b. c. 1780 maybe in
Virginia d. between 1870 and 1880 in Hays/Comal County, Texas, area who had
settled there before 1860 with a more or less grown family. I have found
perhaps five sons born in the 1820 to 1840 era who came to Texas. Census
places their births somewhere in Alabama. With this many sons there might
have been some unidentified daughters as well. The family may have spend
some time in Tennessee and/or Arkansas. They eventually settled south of San
Marcos and more or less straddled the Comal and Hays County line a few miles
west of the current big outlet shopping mall. According to the census
Joseph Williamson had married Elizabeth _?_ just prior to the 1860 census.
The name of the mother of his children is unknown. She would have been born
around 1800 and died before c. 1858.
Johann Schnautz b.c. 1816 in Naussua or Prussia d. between 1860 and 1870 in
the area of New Braunfels, Comal County, Texas. Married Katherine _?_ b. c.
1816 d. after 1880 probably in the same area. They had settled in the area
before the 1860 census. Were they there in 1850 as well. Were they a part
of a group of settlers that came to that area? If so which group and has
anyone researched that group for their "roots" in the Germanic regions?
