The person I am researching was born April 23, 1818 in Hamilton County, Tennessee and died December 27, 1891 in Gainesville, Texas. He is buried in the Fairview Cemetery. He was a real estate agent in 1870 so he may have started an abstract company.

I am trying to verify that he lived in Bell County, Texas in 1864 and 1865. There was a William Howeth in that county who was a Lieutenant and Captain in the Bell County reserves. He was supposed to have been promoted to Major. Apparently his son served in the same company with him. There is an unofficial list that mentions Will W. Howeth and Wesley Howeth being members of the Bell County reserves. It is probabaly the same person.

It is plausible that the family could have temporarily moved from Cooke County to Bell County during the 1860s. I am mainly trying to find some other record that he was a Major in the Texas Reserves. I thought a death notice or some history book might refer to him as a Major.
