I haven't been able to trace back yet beyond my husband's great grandfather,
William Wilson Griffin, b. circa 1851, probably in Mississippi. William's
son, Orren Howard Griffin (b. 1874 in Texas) married Mamie James. Their
son Orren Arthur Griffin was my husband, David Griffin's, father. Here's
where it gets interesting or confusing or funny, depending upon one's
perspective and sense of humor! MY grandmother (who married Guy Williams)
was Mattie James. Mattie and Mamie were identical twins. So when David and
I married, we were cousins. It makes for an interesting genealogy chart.
I have been told that either William Wilson Griffin, or perhaps HIS
father, had a "peg" leg and at one time was a sheriff or some such in
Marlin. I have no idea whether or not this is true. William Griffin's
other children were: Leslie, b. 1884 / Reagan, b. 1889 / Roy, b. 1894, and
a daughter whose name I do not know except in the 1910 census a grandson,
Scott Cromer, lived in the home with William and his wife Susan R.
Do you have some Griffin's in your past or know of some?
