That's interesting. There is information on Sneed on the Robertson County,
Texas Gen Web site. Also in A HISTORY OF ROBERTSON COUNTY, TEXAS by Baker.
The Sneed Memorial Methodist Church in Calvert was named for him. I went to
school with one of his descendants, and his grandmother lived near me,
across the street from the park.
The Sneed family land is in Milam county, and the cemetery where the circuit
rider Sneed is buried.
I believe they came from Tennessee, or, at least, some of that family did.
I have pictures from my grandmother's family, taken by a Sneed Studio in
Tennessee, that I have been trying to determine if they were possibly
related to the one in Robertson county.
Powers Chapel church had a circuit riding preacher by the name of Snead and
I believe they alternated between Methodist and Baptist. Phyllis
Do you know the church affiliation of Powers Chapel? Somehow I believe it
might have been Methodist. I wondered if there might be a church history
and also where the records were eventually stored when the church ceased to
function. I feel confident that many of my family members attended that
church.
