Jasper N. Cross' parents were Thomas B. Cross & Mary E. Miles. Mary's
2nd husband was Josiah/Joseph O'Daniel. I'm not sure, but I believe
that the O'Daniel family was also in Fayette Co, TX in the 1870
census.

Name: Joshua/Josiah Dial O¹DANIEL (Jasper "Jack" Cross' stepfather)

Birth: 19 Mar 1827
Death: 5 Dec 1907 San Angelo, Tom Green CO, TX

Mother: Ann EPPLER (1800-1835)
Other spouses: Thomas B. CROSS

According to census records, Jasper N. Cross was from Missouri. He was
born in 1845, which would have made him 21/22 years old when he
married Sophronia Criswell. They lived in Fayette County at least
until the 1870 Fayette County Census. Their family next appears in the
1880 census in McLennan County.

Is anyone else researching either the Cross or Criswell family?

Does anyone else have any ideas on why a young 21/22 year old man
would have left his home in Missouri and travelled to Fayette County,
TX by 1867? Could the move be military related? If so, what records
should I search? Could he have been involved in the Indian Wars? I
have been unable to locate any Civil War records either Union or
Confederate for Jasper N. Cross. He also went by Jack Cross.

I further believe that Jasper N. Cross may have had a sister named
Mary and a brother named Thomas B. Cross. They may or may not have
lived in Fayette County.

Thank you in advance for any help anyone may provide.
