Subject: [TXGALVES] Koch Le Brun Hauser Angel, Old City Cemetery?

I am hoping someone can help me out with information about a beautiful
monument that stands in the cemetery down on Broadway. I lived on the
Island for 7 years in the early 1980's, and taking photographs of the
wonderful architecture and grave art in the cemeteries on Broadway was one
of my favorite things to do.

This monument is a life sized marble angel with outspread wings. Her eyes
are downcast and she is barefoot, wearing a floor length gown and a headband
or diadem. She holds bouquets of flowers that look like roses in each hand.

The base on which she stands is inscribed on one side with the names:
KOCH Le BRUN HAUSER

I have a series of 3 photographs taken of this monument over a span ranging
between 1982 to 1998. In the first photo (1982) the monument was located in
the center of a grassy area and was surrounded by other tombstones. There
was a "Diamond Shamrock" gas station sign visible over her shoulder. Flowers
were often left on the base of the monument in temporary containers.

In the second photo (1984) 2 small oleander trees had been planted on either
side of the angel

In the last photo (1998) the oleander trees were gone and 2 more permanent
white marble vases had been affixed to the base. At this time, the monument
was no longer located in a grassy area but was located directly on the paved
portion of a path. Two graves that had been in front had been disconnected
from the angel by the making of the path, and the Diamond Shamrock sign was
no longer visible.

I don't think that the name on the monument is a person, rather, I think it
is perhaps 3 family surnames of a group of intermarried families. I know
that this monument had caretakers as it always had flowers.

Can anyone tell me about this monument, when it was erected, etc?

Sincere thanks.
